Patrick Michael Petrossian
Avionics Mechanical Engineer
Tell us about a particularly challenging/exciting project or engagement you had due to your relationship with PDS:
PDS recruited me and got me a position at Relativity Space in the Avionics Department. I am privileged to have responsibilities that leverage design, collaboration, and solutions that drive initiatives within avionics development and manufacturing. PDS has undoubtedly identified and fostered a positive relationship between Relativity Space and me.
How has working with/through PDS contributed to your professional growth?
For over 13 years, I had focused my career on the robotics and high-profile consumer electronics sectors. Working with PDS has allowed me to reinvent my career path by growing within the reusable rocket and aerospace industries.
Can you share a specific moment or achievement that you’re particularly proud of in your career?
I have had an unconventional career path since I returned to pursue my bachelor’s degree when I was 26. With 14 years of industry experience, a degree in Computer Engineering, and a certificate in model-based systems engineering, the fruits of my labor finally come to fruition. I am proud to have had the opportunity to learn from all those who guided me, and I appreciate the motivation to be able to succeed with a parallel career and education simultaneously.
How do you stay updated on industry trends and continuously enhance your skills? Any favorite learning resources or strategies?
Lifelong learning is a philosophy that can undoubtedly help us keep our tools sharp. Allowing ourselves to learn from anyone, even from individuals with less experience, will keep us humble and prevent us from getting complacent. The Mamba Mentality is a framework left to us by the late Kobe Bryant. By keeping a childlike curiosity, we can change routines but keep the same framework for motivation.
What advice would you give to fellow professionals who aspire to achieve similar success?
Never give up, and it’s never too late. Also, don’t ever celebrate too early because “Jobs not finished” -Kobe
In your opinion, what qualities make a candidate
a good fit for PDS?
Being adaptable is important to fit with any team. Being open to opportunities while showing where you bring value makes it easier for companies to give you a shot. PDS will support you if you stick to these values.
What role do you believe mentorship and networking play in career development, and have they been instrumental in your journey?
Networking is the most important aspect of career growth. The more individuals you can foster a positive relationship with, the easier it is to collaborate. You can only get opportunities you have access to. Mentorship allows us to receive guidance as we progress in our careers. It also allows us to grow by learning how we can guide others. Anyone who doesn’t believe in passing on that guidance to the current or next generation is not interested in the success and improvement of humanity.
